How to pick a restaurant for a group

Group dinner plans die in the group chat. Someone suggests a place, someone else is vegetarian, a third person lives forty minutes away, and the thread goes quiet until it's too late to book anything.

Groups don't struggle because people are picky. They struggle because nobody collects the constraints before suggestions start flying.

Collect constraints before suggestions

Ask everyone for one thing: what they're craving or can't do. “Not Italian again”, “vegetarian”, “nothing over $30”, “I'm coming from downtown”. Gather those first. Suggestions made before the constraints are known just create arguments.

Be fair about location

If people are coming from different places, the fair answer is somewhere roughly in the middle, not next to whoever spoke first. If you're already together, the question is different: pickup or delivery to where you are.

Give the group one answer, not a poll

Polls with six options split the vote and nobody's happy. One pick that satisfies everyone's must-have, with the tradeoff stated, gets a quick “yep” far more often.

How VibeDine handles it

Start a group from the home screen (“Eating with friends”) and share the link. Everyone adds what they're craving and, if they want, where they're coming from. VibeDine finds one spot that works for the whole crew and shows why.

Quick answers

Does everyone need the app or an account?

No. Anyone with the link can join from their phone's browser as a guest.

What if someone has an allergy?

Add it as a constraint, but always confirm allergen information directly with the restaurant. Dietary info from any app is a starting point, not a guarantee.
